PESHAWAR: Sugar crisis continued its grip over NWFP including Peshawar, as the sugar prices are uncontrollable even after a month.
Sugar crisis seems irresolvable in NWFP and various parts of the province, as sugar is unavailable at many shops and consumers are facing difficulty in buying sugar from Utility Stores due to limited stock.
Shopkeepers said that they are getting sugar for Rs.2500 to 3000 per sack; thus they are selling sugar for Rs.80/kg to the consumers.
The sugar mills are hoarding the stock which is causing sugar crisis and the mills are involved in black-marketing the commodity to sweet marts and hotels in black, shop keepers told.
NWFP government fixed sugar prices at Rs40/kg, with hitherto no implementation.
